ARMORED- MATT DILLON/LAURENCE FISHEBURNE
12/4/09

What a surprise I had with this movie which features some good things from top to bottom starting with the actors like Matt Dillon and Laurence Fisheburne giving some really good performance's and also the movie had allot of nice action sequences all including for the most part a big armored truck held with over 42 million dollars in cash. The movie is about these group of guys led by Matt Dillon who work at a armored truck company who plan on stealing like I mentioned already 42 million in cash that's stored in one of the trucks which everyone is on board with expect this young man played by newcomer Columbus Short who doesn't want to get involved because it obviously involves stealing but in the end go's through it any ways but as a homeless man is seen walking in there direction while they have the money and is shot it scares him and instead decides to take the money and lock himself into the truck which then forces Matt Dillon and the group that's with him to try and get the money and keep him from doing anything stupid like getting the police. I mentioned already the action and there's allot of it is great for instance there's a scene when Ty who like I mentioned is played by Columbus the actor takes the truck which than forces Matt Dillon's character to chase after him in a car which ends up leading to a high speed chase which runs at a frantic pace until the truck crashes leaving a big mess afterword's also towards the end we see the same high speed chase only this time Ty gets the better of Matt Dillon and his car crashes sending Matt's charcter right into this huge hole which is completely tore into pieces leaving Matt Dillon's character dead and Ty alive with the money to return and I have to mention both chases are so exciting so intense that there argubably some of the beat action sequence I've seen all year. The performances like I already mentioned are good ecspaccly Matt Dillon who really turns it around from a gentile friendly guy to this man who has completely gone nuts after trying to get a hold of all this money also the supporting performances are also very good like Laurence Fishburne and the young actor Columbus Short who really holds his own with all these great veteran actors. So a really nice surprise and one that will make you happy you spent your money on and I also have to mention the story I which is very new and isn't some retread of other action movies you've seen  it's a completely new and original story that works and makes it one of the better movies I've seen recently. - GOOD - JOHN KALTER

LAW ABIDING CITIZEN-JAMIE FOXX/GERARD BUTLER
10/16/09

This has got to be one of the nicest susprises Iv'e seen from my movie theature experience in awhile as going in to this movie I thought it would be ok but I didn't really think it would be that great but to my susprise it was a really good movie filled with alot of nice twists and susprises plus has one of the best performances Iv'e seen from a actor all year. The movie tells of this man played by Gerard Butler who's family is murderd and has DA Nick Rice played by Jamie Foxx take the case having the killer sent to jell for ten years only to get released from the jell cell ten years later which than leads Gerard's charcter to go and kill him which then leads Jamie's charcter back to him were he sends Gerard to jail for his actions but only to hear from Gerard that if he dosen't fix the broken justice system that failed him and his family he will make evryone's life connected to the case a living hell. This movie had some of the best scenes for me of just not knowing what was going to happen like for instince the scene which end's up sending Gerald's charchter to jail were you see he just completely totures the killer of his family were you see him uses everthing from needles to shop tools and making this guys life a living hell which you just completly don't expect it because he seems like just a nice looking guy in the beginning of the movie, also the aftermath were you see every part of his body torn limb from limb makes you whant to literally vomit. Every scene I saw that see's Gerard kill one person to the next that was involed with his case involving his family is just so good and completly takes you by susprise every single time you see it, from one scene involving the judge who handled the case were she get's her head shot off after taking a phone call to a prison cell mate getting stabbed to death in the neck with blood just spewing everywhere just completly blew me away and had me like I mentioned by complete shock and susprise. I absolutly loved Gerard Butler's performance in this movie it easly would make my top five of best performances of the year because he go's to such a complete transformation from honest family man to a absolute ruthless killer and some of the most clever kills you will see from someone all year and I loved the cat and mouse play with both Jamie and Gerard who have excellent chemestry in the movie and how things get so heated that you litterally can feel the intensity and emotion through the screen coming right at you. The relevation in the movie were you see how Gerard's charcter has been getting around to killing all these people is such a susprise and  great moment when it happens because you never would have expected it because  your thinking that maybe he had a accomplice that helped kill these people and not him hiself seeing his that he was in jail the how time. Easily one of the best movies of the year and one that will absoultly blow you away with it's great acting and amazing fast paced action and also has so many twists and turns it will make your head spin so definatly a must see and one you'll have alot of fun with. - EXCELLENT - JOHN KALTER

2012- JOHN CUSACK/OLIVER PLATT
11/13/09

This has to be one of the worst big budget special effects movies I have ever had to sit through in a movie theature and one I hope to never see again. First thing I will say is that I didn't have high expectations going into this movie so take that for what it's worth but honestly I can say I did not think I was going to be this bored. I can guarntee you that most people whant to go see this movie for the special effects but really there is nothing to brag about seeing things in this movie iv'e see ten times better in other big budget effects driven movies. The story it self is ridiculous and go's completely all over the place with one bad scene after the other putting these pretty deecent actors into these horrible characters giving them really know good things to work with. I also found mysef annoyed with the constant scenes of loved ones saying goodby and crying there eyes out to there family and friends which just seem to me to go overkill through out the movie and just dosent seem to mesh well with all the action and having all these citys getting wiped out. Another thing about this film that made me completly upset was the running time of this movie which is a full two hours and fourty minutes which for a movie like this shouldn't be that long when all this movie is one bad special effect after the other and some of the most ridiculous and chessy over the top dialouge you will see in a movie this year. And like I had already mentioned the movie has one to many annoying characters from this overweight billionare russian guy who you can barly understand were he brings along his even more annoying fat children who you whant to punch in the face to even the  children of John Cusack who never shut up in this movie and are so cliched in there charcters you feel like you have seen theses people before and let me go on record and say I dont like annoying bratty kids in my movies ever. So if you into big budget disater movies than you might like this movie me on the other hand thought it was a complete waste of time and one of the worst movies I have seen all year you have been warned. - AWFUL  - JOHN KALTER

TRICK OR TREAT- ANNA PAQUIN/BRIAN COX
OCTOBER 2009

Better late than never I guess as I was hoping to get this review up just in time for Halloween but didn't get to see it until a day ago and after seeing it fortunately it lived all the way to the expectations I had for this film after seeing the great trailer. The movie tells of four stories set on Halloween that all deal with something going terribly wrong in the end the first stories and let me start off and say it was the weakest and didn't get the movie off to a great start as it was about a teacher who gives unsuspecting kids poisoned candy than after there poisoned him and his son kill there bodies and leave there heads for decoration which may sound good but for me this story fell flat and wasn't as interesting as I would of liked it to be. The second story tells of a outcast named Rhonda who joins a group of teenagers to discover what really happened to a bus full of kids that tragically all fell of a cliff and into a river on Halloween leaving there bodies to drown had for me just a little more scares than the previous story and what I liked was the slow build up to the climax were we finally see the kids as the living dead go after one by one and start attacking the teenagers who are looking to see if it was all true really had me intrigued plus it was actually really suspenseful. The third story maybe my favorite as it see's Anna Paquin as little red riding hood go with a bunch of her friends and sister to a Halloween party the only problem is Anna's character isn't sure she wants to go through with it as she feel like she just doesn't have it in her well that being turning into a werewolve and killing a bunch of people is her problem and the way it builds up to this you really don't see it coming but once she gets stalked by a attacker she finally comes to her senses and becomes what she has always been and that is a vicious monster killer and the scene itself were she is killing her attacker with all her friends who are also werewolves has to be one of the best horror scenes I've seen in along time plus on top of that you have marlyin mansons sweet dream's playing in the background nice. And finally last but not least another good story see's Brian Cox as a grumpy old sheltered man who hates Halloween and on one night get's a visitor by a trick or treated who not only wants candy but also wants to make this mans life a living hell in the process and trust me it's a lot of fun to watch as it's truly scary especially when you see this scary looking kid with his mask off as it shows him having a deformed pumpkin shaped head and he's literally doing all he can to scare the living hell out of him and on top of this the ending were all looks good for him ends with him being attacked by those living dead kids from the second story who you come to find out are out for revenge as Brian Cox's character was the bus driver who sent those kids to there watery grave which is very very scary stuff. And I cant go with out mentioning just how beautiful the film looks from every scene you see it's one great shot after the other filled with everything you love about Halloween and the scary situations it brings. So defiantly a movie worth watching if your a horror fan and one that will be great for every Halloween year round.

ZOMBIELAND- WOODY HARRELSON
10/2/09

I have never had so much fun watching a movie in along time from the first scene to the last than this film which  is a absolute blast with the absolute perfect blend of horror and comedy ive'e seen in along time . Let me just say it starts off perfectly with the main character and narrator Columbus played by Jesse Eisenberg telling us the audience the rules for escaping and killing zombies which he tells hilariously and is shown in the most outrageous ways plus on top of that one of the best uses of music  is used with Metallica's for whom the bell tolls which is just as perfect as perfect can be because it fits the movie so well plus any time you can you's a metallica song it's always fine with me as im a huge fan of of the band and absolutely love this song. I haven't seen a better performance in a movie than that of Woody Harrelson's Tennessee who is a absolute badass in this movie who gives not only the coolest lines while he's bashing the heads of zombies but also just looks so cool with just the clothes he's wearing to the many torture tools he uses to kill all of the zombies he meets along the way just simply makes him one of my all time favorite movie characters of all time and like I mentioned the absolute coolest as while. One of my favorite cameos of recent memory is in this movie which is the hilarious Bill Murray playing himself as he opens his mansion to Tennessee and his friends who are huge fans of the actor and seeing Bill act as if he was a zombie to scare them only to tell them he's not and was just was messing with them is absolutely priceless and typical Bill Murray humor also I love the love of another great horror comedy Ghostbusters that is used to perfection giving homage to that great movie by them rocking out to the ghostbusters music to watching the movie on the big screen is just a great way of giving love to that movie and how Bill's cameo ends with him accidentally getting shot because he's trying to scare the little girl played by Abigail Breslin is just funny how it all ends  with him telling them he regrets making Garfield to getting thrown off the top of his house. The way the movie ends is just great with the climax being at a amusement park which is were they go to try and get away from the zombies only to find a ton of them living there and ends with them having to fight out all the zombies with guns and kill them all to try and eventually escape is used to perfection and is just allot of fun as the theme park rides are used to kill these zombies and the park itself being used as a war zone makes it one of the best endings to a movie in along time but also one of the absolute funniest. So please do yourself a favor this Halloween season and see this movie as you will not be disappointed and will leave you smiling as the final credits roll a definite must see.

COUPLES RETREAT- VINCE VAUGHN/JON VAVREAU
10/10/09

In what has to be one of the best surprises for me this year and had me laughing for most of the movie it's one that should make alot of people laugh off there seats and enjoy themselves for one of the nicer movies this year. I have to give major props to Vince Vaughn and his buddy Jon Vareau for really giving this movie some of the biggest laughs in the movie and defiantly make this movie a must see for there hilarious scenes and really great chemistry. The movie tells of these four couples who are so fed up with there lives that they all end up going to this tropical paradise thinking for relaxation instead get misery and like you would expect hilarity insues. Like I had mentioned Vince Vaughn is hilarious in this movie and without him I don't think this movie would be as funny as every scene he's in he steals the show like in particular there's one scene when him and his wife with the other couples are getting taught yoga practices and the look and what comes out of his mouth when his wife is getting felt up by this guy is so funny. And with Jon Vareau his relationship with his wife are some of his funniest scenes like when he try's to hide the fact he doesn't want to be at this particular island there staying at and instead wants to be at the one with all the young people and bachelor life lifestyle just makes you laugh. I also have to mention another actor one I didn't know much about and that was Fazion Love who is very funny and has some of the best lines in the movie I ecspacally liked the relationship he has with this 20 something girl who get's him to do thing's he doesn't want to do like putting hot wax on his stomach when there making love or getting himself to drop  his pants even though he's not wearning any underwear just the look on his face when this is all happing is priceless. This movie like you can see is driven by these very funny actors who defiantly cary this movie to some very funny moments and make this movie very enjoyable and alone that should be seen by those wanting to have a good time.

SURROGATES-BRUCE WILLIS
9/25/09

I recently just saw this picture on Saturday and was disappointed to say the least as by looking at the trailers thought it was going to be a really fun movie instead after watching it I really had know fun at all. I will say first that Bruce Willis continues his winning streak with good performances and really holds up against a really confusing and bad plot also the special effects for the most part are really impressive and really make this alternative world look real. The main problem for me was the story which wasn't something I could get a grasp on which see's these Surrogates these futuristic robots that take the part of real people were this no crime or hatred around that's supposed to make the world better however once Bruce's character see's the first murder starts questioning what's really going on around there. Saying all that it wasn't put together in a way I would've liked were the acting for the most part isn't very good besides Bruce Willis and the movie isn't very riveting with characters for the most part I had no interest in and really bored me to tears. I also felt the the timing and pacing of the film was way off with things either coming to late or there just wasn't enough time put on the story or what was going at the time so it just left me feeling bored and not interested at all. I myself is a huge scfi fan and was really looking at the this movie as another scfi film that would wow me and would see a couple more times instead the wow factor wasn't there like I expected hoping for a really cool movie that was filled with eye popping things and a really good story instead got nothing like that which was a huge disappointment for me. So for me I would say save this film for a rental when it comes out on dvd and don't go and pay ten bucks to see it in the movie theater as it really isn't worth it if you ask me. -  JOHN KALTER

THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT- TONY GOLDWYN/SARAH PAXTON
3/13/09

One of the few horror remakes I've seen that I must admit wasn't all that terrible though I wouldn't say it was one my favorites I've seen recently it was defiantly passable for a Friday night though. What I did like was that it felt real and the film wasn't showing any remorse to the camera as far as showing what was going to happen and showing it in great detail with a really great gritty atmosphere. One scene in particular that was a know holding back moment was a rape scene in the woods were the three kidnappers are just brutally doing this and other things to her and her girlfriend from stabbing them repeatedly to beating them showing now absoulutly no mercy. I also enjoyed  the way the movie ended which See's the parent's getting there revenge by having the killers in there house staying there because of a bad rainstorm which to me is done perfectly with very good suspense as they try and kill each one and also try and get away free without getting hurt. The acting to is pretty good I ecspacally liked the performance of the young actress Sarah Paxton who gives a nice performance of playing this young girl caught in this horrible situation then deals with the aftereffects of what psychically happened to her really shows her poise and timing. Know what I didn't like was that it had some moments were I felt sick and couldn't watch because it was so graphic it just made me feel dirty like why am i watching this because it just doesn't seem right which attributes to the filmmakers who like already mentioned pulls know punches. So even though with that small problem it was a decent surprise and I just want to bring this up I'm not a big fan of these kind of movies most of the time seeing as I like a little more suspense in my horror movies rather than gore but I'm still recommending this however and I think for all horror movie fans this will be a welcome surprise in the horror genre.

X-MEN ORIGINS- WOLVERINE- HUGH JACKMAN
5/1/09
In what was the first big release of this year durning the summer movie season I have to say recently after just watching it for the first time it has to be one of the bigger disappointments of the year so far. And it's disappointing beacuse I really enjoyed the previous X-MEN films and couldn't be at all entertained by this one which had allot of promise as the character of Wolverine was one of my favorites and showed by the previous movies I watched that the character if done right could have a really good movie on his own. I would like to point out first the few positives and ther are few like Hugh Jackman who is very entertaining as the Wolverine character and brings allot of life into this really dull script and also in the short time that he's in the movie Ryan Reynolds is really funny as the character of Deadpool and brings a few laughs to the screen that his time allows.  Know the main problem I had with the movie is the script which is very boring and dull and something I've seen in countless superhero and action movies that just throws this whole movie into a tailspin if you ask me. The special effects  also are very over the top and cartooning and it seems like there was really know thought to these effects other than to put them in there because they think it makes the movie look better which it doesn't.  Also the character of Sabertooth I wanted to mention also just for how truly disappointing he was and how much I was looking forward to seeing him as one of the top villains in the movie but he just came of as flat to me and really didn't entertain me at all with what he was doing in the film and also the altercations with Wolverine which weren't really exciting. And also speaking of other characters I didn't like it would have to be the majority of them  which didn't show a glimpse throughout the picture as interesting people and characters that really  kept my interest and help make me like this movie  more .  And even though I have seen far more entertaining Summer blockbusters than this one  I would mention if you have seen everything else that's out there it will do you know harm than to check out this film and see for yourself . - JOHN KALTER

FRIDAY THE 13TH- JARED PADALECKI/DEREK MEARS
2/13/09

In what was a movie I didn't have high expectations going in because of the fact I never liked any of the older Friday movies was exactly what I thought which was it wasn't very good. I would like to throw out before I go and bash the movie would say that Jason himself looks very menacing and scary and there are some creative looking kills but other than that there isn't much to praise about. First and foremost the acting is just terrible and is reason why I don't like these slasher movies in the first place because everyone I see is just like this with some of the worst wooden overacting you will ever see. And the actors themselves are so annoying that I literally wanted to punch them in the face if i could because the voices coming from there mouths just had nothing interesting to say. The bulk of the story is about a guy played by Jared Padalecki who is looking for his missing sister who is captured by Jason because she looks like someone he knew durning his childhood is just silly and make little sense and has nothing to make you interested and excited about with the whole story and literally bored me for the most part to tears. And I couldn't stand the amount of horror movie cliches you see through out the movie from the stupid stoners to the drunken fools who love to down a couple of beers to of course the horny teenagers that love to get laid while a homicidal psycho killer is around you is just so overblown at this point it makes me want to stop watching horror movies all together. So I wouldn't say I'm surprised by how much I did not like it but I will say that if your into the slasher genre which I am not then this might be a movie you might enjoy. - JOHN KALTER

INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS-BRAD PITT/CHRISTOPH WALTZ
8/21/09

One of the most exhilarating and entertaining movie's I have seen all year and if you are are a real movie fan this by far the only movie you should see at this moment. The movie has everything you could possibly want in a summer movie thrills, action, suspense and some of the best movie scenes you've seen all year. Let me first star out with that the movie which is told in five chapters each greatly explaining what the movie is about and were it's headed which is mainly told through the bastard's eyes which is a group led by Brad Pitt who are haunting down Nazi's and taking each of there scalps while at the same time the Nazi Germans are being led by Hitler of course who are planing for a big movie night at this local theater were they plan is to show one of there officers movies which ends up really pissing of the owner a young girl who's family was murdered by them long ago so to act on revenge with the bastard's help she will blow up the theater while there in there watching and shoot the remains. One of my favorite performances in the movie is by the unknown actor Christoph Waltz who plays Col Hans Landa who is so good in the performance it's like watching the real thing this absolute ruthless yet charming Nazi leader who enjoys a good joke or to but also love's to kill and torture at the same time in fact one scene in particular to look out for is when he's with the beautiful German actress Bridget Von Hammersmark  played by Diane Kruger who is taken into this room with Hans and is being asked to put on a shoe that resembles her's so he can see if she was the culprit in this brutal bloodbath a few scenes earlier and when he finds out it was her he strangles her to death all while smiling and for that hands down of the best performances of the year. And I  can't obviously forget about another great actor that being Brad Pitt who is just hilarious with this role and shows a very different side of him I have yet to see in his previous movies and the way he looks is just simply awesome and really brings out the character he's portraying and him also with his deep high voice just makes the character that much more ehintic and real. There's one scene i liked that go's above the rest in my opinion and that's the final scene when the Nazi's are in the movie theater and get what's coming to them which is a complete and total bloodbath massacre with bodies going everywhere and shootings  galore which is just  what I expect to see in a Quentin Tarantino movie and it's just completely insane at the same time. And I cant forget a very funny scene when Bear Jew one of the Bastard's is torturing a Nazi with a baseball bat which is both disgusting and bad but when you see it it's also very funny as while just seeing these men just having a blast killing there enemy's and having a good time. Know I can see most people staying away from this movie because it's long and there is allot of subtitles plus Brad Pitt the main star isn't in every scene of the movie but take that all the way and just enjoy yourself for one of the most entertaining movies to come out in along time and one of my favorites. - JOHN KALTER

THE GOODS LIVE HARD, SELL HARD-JEREMY PIVEN/ED HELMS
8/14/09

This has to be the most disappointing comedy I have seen all summer and one judging by the trailers I saw thought was going to be really funny and be very similar to another great movie The Hangover instead really disappointed me and has to be one of the worst movies I have seen this summer. The movie had potential because I liked the idea of  someone coming in and helping a used car dealership become a success by the Fourth of July because it was something different and by looking at the cast which had all these talented people you thought it was going to be hilarious instead it was painful. There was way to many flat jokes that just didn't do it for me and seemed like tired retreads of previous better comedies. The dialouge was also very bad and did not come out funny at all and just seemed like the writers of the movie didn't even try to make this be a success and a very funny movie instead just put a hour and thirty minutes of  bad comedy to the screen. The cast like I mentioned is huge with alot of very good actors who are trying there best to put through a funny movie but with the script just can't try enough one thing though I like to mention is that Will Ferrell makes a cameo and what a surprise his cameo is about the only thing I somewhat laughed at because it's so outrageous and will dose his best at making something as stupid as this scene funny which is him coming out of a airplane in a Lincoln costume were he accidentally is handed a bag full of sex toys instead of a parachute  so he can land and help sell these cars is only funny because of Will Ferrell's comedy genius and timing throght the scene. For the good comedies I have seen like The Hangover and Funny People this was by far the worst of the comedy bunch to stay the least and one you should avoid seeing in the movie theater at all costs. - JOHN KALTER

SCREAM-NEVE CAMBELL/DAVID ARQUETTE
12/20/96

One of my top five favorite horror movies and one I can watch again and again is the first Scream filled with humor, scares and suspense that every horror movie buff should go out and buy and add to there collection. What makes a movie like this so classic for me is the story first and for most which I think is one of the more original ones ever which is a girl named Sidney played by Neve Cambell who is terrorized along with her friends by this ghosface killer on the day of her mother's one year anniversary were she was murdered. There's one scene in this movie in particular that stands above any other scene in the whole movie is when Drew Barrymore one of the biggest actress at the time gets murdered and gutted to a tree post by the ghostface killer who before he killed her asks her horror movie trivia to answer correctly or her and her boyfriend will die just gives you chills and makes me not look at the part of the killing everytime because it's so brutal to watch. The acting by all the actors in the film are great but none stands out more to me than Jamie Kennedy as the horror movie geek who thinks he knows everything that's going on and blames the movies in the process is so funny and likable your with him every step of the way as he's kinded the odd man out and the nerd of the group. The look of the ghostface killer still scares me to this day with the ghostly white wide open face to the long black trench choat and knife just makes for at least me one of the greatest psychos to be put on screen in fact I remember liking the costume so much when I was younger i wore it for Halloween which looking back now was defiantly one of my best decisions. I also cant forget the blood in the movie and there is alot of it especially the ending when the two killers are revealed and are terrorizing Neve Cambell and her friends has to be filled with some of the most blood you could possibly see put on screen and one scene towards the end when the tv camera man get's his throat slashed and rivers of blood is coming down his neck has got to be scened to be believed. The music for a movie usually alot times can   make or break whether it's good or not but this film has one of the most genius and well used pieces of music I've scene in nick cave and the bad seeds red right hand which just fits the movie perfectly and adds so much to a already great film. So in closing I just had to mention that their are plans to bring the remaing original cast members back for a fourth film that supposed to come out next year so look out for that and hope that it brings what the the original film brought to us with is such a truly scary and original horror movie that will have you screaming at the top of your lungs. - JOHN KALTER

I LOVE YOU MAN- PAUL RUDD/JASON SEGAL
3/20/09
In what may turn out by the end of the year as my favorite comedy this little scene picture is one of the best and funniest to come out all year and has one of the best comedy duos in a while with such great chemistry between both actors and also not to mention very big  laughs to boot. Like I mentioned already both Paul and Jason have great chemistry and are so funny with Paul playing the straight guy who's married that is looking for a best man or friend for his wedding who happens to be the crazy and energetic Sydney played by one of my favorite actors in comedy today Jason Segal the complete opposite of Paul Rudd's character.. What's also great about these two is the stuff that Sydney get's Peter played by Paul Rudd to do for the first time since he's never had a really good guy best friend before like going to Rush concerts and rocking out to guitar or just acting very silly and not acting so uptight which adds to so many laughs and good moments because these two are such opposites and have never met each other before this. I also enjoyed the scenes were Andy Samburg was teaching Paul Rudd to act like a real man and not so much like a woman because he's always hanging out with his wife and girlfriends by giving him all these man dates which are all hilarious and awkward and also to know that Andy's Paul gay brother was also a nice touch because it's so damn funny and unexpected. Another funny thing about this film that had me rolling is that Lou Ferrigno the Hulk from the tv show is one of Paul Rudd's clients and is just so bossy and mean that in one particular scene he's fighting with Jason Seagal's charchter who's talking to Lou about leaving Paul alone and Lou end's up chocking Jason out until he turns red which is also a really funny scene. I also have to mention I always have been a big fan of Paul Rudd's who seam's like in the past couple of years has not made one awful movie and continues with this one to just keep piling up the laughs and great acting in the comedy world and I personally only see his career only skyrocketing more because of his charisma and presence on screen in these king of movies. So do yourself a favor and rent this comedy gem as it will have you laughing and saying out loud like me I loved it man.

FUNNY PEOPLE- ADAM SANDLER/SETH ROGEN
7/31/09

From one of my favorite directors working today comes a movie of two parts really because I really loved the first hour or so of the film the last half not so much which is disappointing  to me because if the second half was as good as the first I would have really liked this film. The film is about a comedian George Simmons played by Adam Sandler who finds out he's dying and meets with a young up and  and coming comedian played by Seth Rogen who he takes under his wing and starts a friendship. The performance's in the film are very good I ecspacally liked Seth Rogen who once again proves his staying power with a really funny performance that ranks with some of his funniest work and I was also impressed with Johna Hill who plays Seth's friend in the movie as he comes with some of the funniest quotable dialog in the movie and really is a standout amongst all theses big actors. Liked I  mentioned before the first half was the better half of the movie because that's were we see alot of good things comedy wise that will have you laughing on the floor ecspacally the scenes with Adam Sandler's charcther and Seth's who have a really good solid chemistry in the movie and also come up with most of the funniest scenes in the movie as while. The second half like i mentioned also just didn't do for me and while I wouldn't say it was bad most of it just bored me because it mainly deals with Adam Sandler trying to get back with his previous wife and try to reconcile which for me just dragged on way to much and also I felt to much time was spent there rather than laughs  . This has to be the best comedy for me however when it comes to stand up and the lives of stand up comedians and what things they must do to get to the top and stay there which I really never knew about so it was a nice bio basically of what these people actually do in front and away from the spotlight. There's alot of scenes to look out for and enjoy but the one's I liked the best were the stand up routines of all the comedians and there acts which were all hilarious and one you may not recognize that's funny is the act of Randy who really is hilarious and takes the spotlight almost from everyone else. Another scene I laughed at was when Adam Sandler takes Seth Rogen to this myspace benefit and James Taylor is playing on stage and while this is happening Adam and Seth are talking about what to say in their act and one of the things Adam was going to do James Taylor says which is fuck facebook which had me rolling on the floor because it was so unexpected and the reaction on Adam's face is priceless. And finally one other scene that I want to mention that I found really funny is when Adam's character brings two girls with him to his house with Seth and the one girl who is with Seth doesn't like the experience and doesn't find Seth interesting but when she meets Adam she go's right at him having sex and making Seth look sad in comparsion which is  hilarious and also after both girls Adam's sucking on a Popsicle and making fun of Seth for  not getting any. So though not up with this directors previous work it still a good film and one of the better comedies you will see all year.

KNOWING- NICHOLAS CAGE
3/20/09

In what for me has to be one of the bigger movie surprises I've seen all year is this movie though I will not say it was a great movie it certainly was a good one and one everyone should go out and rent. What I liked more than anything in this movie was the constant amount of suspense through out the film that gives the movie another added punch to the science fiction storyline about how the world is going to end. One thing in particular that adds to the suspense more than anything is the strangers alien like beings that constantly haunt Nicholas Cage and his son telling them in telepathic whispers about the disastrous events that will happen to the world which just gave me chills everytime I saw them in the movie because of how truly scary these people look . The special effects also really add to this movie ecpacally one scene in particular when Nicholas Cage is outside his car and seeing what is going on with the hold up in traffic when all of sudden a airplane out of nowhere crashes to the ground and right behind him that just literally blew me away because it was so realistic and just takes you by a loop because it happens so fast then to top it all of people are actually coming from the burning plane screaming in horror which just adds to the greatness and excitement of the scene. Nicholas Cage really was a perfect choice for this role as a professor who finds this paper written by a girl who's writing of the end of the world gets put into a time capsule which he finds and really has to convince everyone it shows how all these catastrophic events that had happen and. will continue to happen bringing towards the end of the world and he makes you believe his sincerity towards getting everyone prepared for this huge event and also convince people without looking really stupid. The film is a good recent addition to the science fiction genre and really will remind you of past classic science fiction movies you have seen that really exhibits the feel and characters as while as the surroundings of what makes a good solid science fiction movie. One last thing I want to mention is the twist and turns in the story and the shocking surprise way the film ends which I wasn't expecting going in which in the end I really enjoyed and very much liked the surprise that shows the real reason the strangers came in the first place and not just to mention the warnings of end of the world. So do yourself a favor and rent this pretty solid movie that you might of missed will it was showing in the movie theater and maybe like me it will be a nice surprise and one you might like rather than hate.

BRUNO- SACHA BARON COHEN
7/10/09

As a big fan of Sacha's previous work like Borat I was going in to this movie thinking it was going to be the most hilarious movie of the year instead I was highly disappointed walking out to find that it wasn't really funny with maybe just one or two really good things in there and nowhere near  the laughfest as I mentioned of his previous stuff which I really enjoyed. The one thing I disliked more then anything was the humor which I couldn't get into which is him basically acting like a gay model interviewing all these random people which you think back in your mind that sounds like it's really funny movie but it really isn't as the jokes are lame for the most part and seem very tired with him mainly going with the gross out stuff rather than something smart. I also couldn't get into the character of Bruno as much as I wanted to because it's not a very interesting one which I think has alot to do with the fact he's basally just a gay person making people uncomfortable with really no good jokes or gags to go along with. And what really surprised me was I have seen him on talk shows were he go's and promotes the movie in full charchter which for me he was ten times funnier than most of the stuff I saw in this movie which was a really big letdown because that was half the reason I went to see the movie in the first place because of how funny he was on the TV shows and how much he had me on floor laughing. There were however like I mentioned one or two scenes that I laughed at that made the movie some what not a big waste of time and that was when he is with these rednecks out camping were you see him make these guys completely ticked off were you literally feel like there going to just kill him because of how gay he's acting like when he undresses and trys to sneak into there camping tents which was pretty funny and another one is when he's at this orgy at the the end of the movie were he basically is so out of place because he's obviously gay and he's with a bunch of straight people so you can feel the frustration of these people when he's there basically watching and annoying everyone which was also very funny stuff. So in closing with this very short review if you want funny go and rent his previous work Borat which was really funny rather than this movie which has only two funny scenes and nothing really else to stand up and laugh about. - JOHN KALTER

PUBLIC ENEMIES- JOHNNY DEPP/CHRISTIAN BALE
JULY 1ST, 2009

Based on a true story of what happened to John Dillinger and his gang in the 1930's and the chase to find him and capture him by Melvin Purvis is a good shoot them up gangster picture with a very good performance by Johnny Depp. The entire film is shot in High Definition which you can tell right away while watching it because the the picture quality is so much different than that of a normal looking movie and you can see the actors faces so much clearer which makes it like you are watching them really up close . The thing I liked more than anything else in this movie was the gunfights that would take place durning the course of the picture which are so high intense as while as exciting that you can literally feel the shots coming from there guns. And the one scene in particular was a hunt for John Dillinger and his men that sees one of the more exciting and thrilling moments in the movie were Melvin Purvis and his men are relentlessly looking and finding everyone of John's men and trying to bring them to justice through these dark woods in Chicago were John and his men were hiding out. I have to give big props to Johnny Depp who once again proves his greatness as a actor with by far the best performance in the movie were he brings charisma, humor and a great dramatic presence were he literally embodies John Dillinger in every sense of the way. The look of the picture being shot like that of the 1930's was really well done and looked just liked it would've looked back than from everything to the fashion, hair styles as while as the look of the great city of Chicago which for me has never looked better. The fact that it's a true story makes it for me much more better than if it were not  true and makes you feel like your watching the real event taking place right in front of your eyes of one of the most notorious criminals in our history that we have known and also makes me want to look up all the facts on my computer of this event because it is so fascinating and im sure has so much more for me to discover. It's  I will say not in the same league however of previous gangster pictures I have seen like Goodfellas and of course The Godfather but still a solid gangster picture nonetheless and another one to add in the  long list of gangster pictures I have seen. This film is a nice surprise after the disaster that was Transformers 2 and one everyone should see to leave the bad taste out of your mouth from that film and is the kind of summer movie I have been waiting for all summer one filled with a good story and one of the best performances of the year as while as being one that's filled with one exciting moment after the other and just relentless nonstop thrills and excitement. - JOHN KALTER

THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1,2,3- DENZEL WASHINGTON/JOHN TRAVOLTA
JUNE 12, 2009

A movie with a all star cast and some very good high tense action scenes you think I would strongly recommend this but however I am not and instead saying it was very average and your obvious seen it before run of the mill kind of story. Let me start of by mentioning the cast which is big but for me which will surprise some had only one good performance to speak of and that was from James Gandolfini who really gives a honest performance as the mayor of New York and is completely different than what I've seen from previously like the Tony Soprano character. The performance I dislike more than anything had to be from John Travolta as the hijacker who really didn't play the role of a villain quite convincingly and instead looked and acted very cartooning and didn't seem menacing at the very least it just makes you  wish they hired a better actor for the part which could've made the movie so much better. The action scenes like I mentioned are the best part of the movie ecspacally the shootout and chase scene at the end which is filled with allot of suspense and high intense action as there is both a train headed to crash and search for the hijacker played by John Travolta. Denzil's role I want to mention isn't good or bad it's just there and he really doesn't add anything special to the role like you might accept from one of are best actors working today plus and maybe it's just me but he didn't really show any real excitement through the screen as I was watching it and  just simply looked bored while playing this role. Also I have to mention shooting in New York was one of the few pluses for the movie as having that great big city as the backdrop really added to the movie's plot and characters in the film. You know just thinking about it with a better story and some better actors this really could of been something to see for the summer rather than just a passable action thriller which is a shame because us the audience deserve better than what we saw. So if anything go see it for the good stylized action scenes or for the one good performance like I mentioned or if your really bored and have scene every other movie out there than I guess it wouldn't hurt you to try this out at least one time in your life but please just one time.

DRAG ME TO HELL- ALISON LOHMAN/JUSTIN LONG
MAY 29, 2009

This movie I just watched recently and I must say it was a very nice surprise was what  reminded me of why I love horror movies in the first place the gore, the story and the constant scenes of spooky suspense. The movie is very good at blending two genre's together in horror and comedy which work very perfectly throughout the movie's runningtime ecspally the scene in the movie were Alison Lohman's character is in her car and this old gypsy who has come back for revenge puts a curse on her while she's trying to escape and while doing so these two get into a fight were there's biting and blood as while as one of them getting a staple through the eye all very reminiscent of a three stooges skit because there's so much slapstick along with the scares. The character that Alison Lohman portrays in the movie is very vulnerable at first because she's worried about her job than to have a curse to be brought upon you doesn't make life that much easier but as you see in the movie she grows stronger in the end as she try's and fights it  and it go's without saying the performance by her is very believable and one of the better performances by a actress in horror movies in quite sometime. The gore is just really  great if your into that as it's constantly shown when ever the crazed gypsy shows up and terrorizes her like one scene in particular were she's at a funeral wake were she go's and locates the Gypsy's house and finds that she's dead but end's up knocking the casket over her putting the lifeless body on her face were in a big gross out moment puss or this green slime just flows out her mouth and onto her face making you very squeamish while watching. Another scene I thought was great is when she go's to work and see's her boss about something and ends up spewing ton's of red blood out of her nose and into her bosses face which is one of the best uses of blood I have scene . The gypsy itself is very well done make-up wise and  has got to be one of the more creative and scary looking thing's I've scene in a horror movie  ecspacally with all the the gore and gross out moments you see her do. If I had to say what other horror movie's this reminded movie of it would have to be the Evil Dead trilogy which very much so blended horror and comedy just as good as this movie and also have very good uses of displaying gore effects with also slapstick comedy. Another scene I like is when she go's to a big old spooky looking house with this fortune teller and a grieving mother who lost her child to this curse years ago and they all do this seance which try to drive the spirt out of her which is a scene very well put together  that has some moments of really great suspense and terror along with also really good usage of special effects ecspcally when the spirt jumps from one body to another making everyone possessed and turning them into these evil creatures from the underworld. The movie is a real treat for anyone looking to have a good time  bening scared out of your mind but also laughing your head off to.

TRANSFORMERS REVENGE OF THE FALLEN- SHIA LEBOUF/MEGAN FOX

This  movie for me has to be the biggest disappointment to come from the big summer movie season we have had so far and also I hate to say it may be one of the worst movies I've seen in along time. It just was all noise and no story to really seek your teeth into and if you could tell me what the movie was about I sure like to know because I am still having trouble knowing what the hell was going on. The effects which I am sure most people are going to go see the movie for were OK but nothing I haven't seen in any other big summer blockbuster and were not even as good as  the first transformers movie. The acting by the actors other that Shia Lebouf who I fought was really the only highlight from the movie as he really gave the movie some good laughs as while as some good solid acting was pretty bland even Megan Fox who im sure is another reason why most people would see it was pretty bad who really just by watching this performance could do so much better in something else were she could really expand her acting skills. Also another thing I didn't like acting wise was the parents who after the first couple of scenes really served no purpose in being in the rest of the movie seeing how the characters weren't  really important part of what was going on other than some few laughs. And the robots which I must admit look cool are really annoying after awhile ecspacally the  ones that are acting really racist by basically using stereotypes of the way black people talk really were not something I enjoyed and was just basically waiting for when they got destroyed so I wouldn't have to see them again. The movie to me seemed to get dumber and more importantly dumbed down to kids who really is what this movie is targeted for and just by watching it having jokes or action scenes entertain the children more than the adults. And the running time of the movie which has to be the longest time I sat in a movie theater just waiting and waiting for the movie to end because it was that long clocking in what seemed like almost three hours which basically for me made the movie seem more painful than what it already was and also very tired because the nonsense wouldn't end. So in closing I am pleading with you to go and spend your money on something that will make you glad you spend you money rather that wish you got your money back like The Hangover or Star Treck which are far more entertaining than this film. - JOHN KALTER

FIGHT CLUB- BRAD PITT/EDWARD NORTON
OCTOBER 15, 1999

If your looking for the ultimate guy's movie and you can't quite find it yet you came to the right place because Fight Club is with out a doubt that movie filled with everything a guy could want in  a movie action, suspense, humor. Th movie tells of this narrator played by the always great actor Edward Norton who basically hates his mundane life and will do anything to get out of it so one day he meets with Tyler Durden Played by Brad Pitt who might very well has played the coolest character on screen on a plane were they talk about hooking up and becoming friends so they meet and what ends up being this harmless get together ends up them forming a underground fight club were guys can take there frustration out on other guys. The film has some of the best acting by two great actors who may of played there best roles yet with Brad Pitt giving the film such a energetic and thrilling performance as Tyler Durden who like I mentioned already is one of the coolest characters put onto screen with his clothes, hair to how he talks and conducts himself around the other guys and lets not forget the other piece of this great picture The Narrator who is played by Edward Norton who acts very convincingly as any man put into his situation having this fight club and not knowing what is really going on around him and also feeling like you have no control of what is happing in your life playing the complete opposite to Brad Pitt's character who seems to have everything in control and plays with such calm and coolness. The love triangle between the two actors and this woman named Marla played by Helena Bonham Carter is really a great part of this movies greatness because it's filled with some very funny dark humor as while giving the movie something else to play with other than the fighting scenes. The fighting is done with such a realistic tone that you feel as though your watching real men fight with every ounce of blood, sweat and tears being put on the screen for you to witness the brutality that these men fighting until one man can't get up is amazing to watch that you cant take your eyes of the screen for a second. One of the greatest twists in movie history and filmed with such suspense you can't believe what you  just saw with your own two eyes is having it revealed that Tyler Durden is actually The Narrator played by Edward Norton and isn't a real person like we are meant out to believe which is mind blowing after just watching all of the previous scenes in the movie were you fought they were two different people. The movie was based on a well received book by the same name that was very popular unlike the reviews of this movie when it was first released which mostly panned the movie however now the movie has become a cult classic and voted by most movie fans as the greatest movie of time. So do yourself a favor and rent this movie if you haven't see it already because it's easily one of the most entertaining movies to watch ecpacally if your a guy. - JOHN KALTER

THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS- VING RHAMES/BRANDON ADAMS
NOVEMBER 1, 1991

One of those little know horror films that not many people know about is to me one of the most scary and original horror films I have seen that also happens to be very entertaining as while. It's directed by one of the greatest horror filmmakers that ever lived in Wes Craven who got the idea by finding out that parents really had locked up there own kids inside there house and never letting them out for anything. Which is what the movie is mainly about only instead of parents letting these kids locked up in a house it's a brother and sister who do really bad things to these kids cutting out what they perceive to be the bad parts of these kids. Also part of the story is that a ghetto boy named Fool played by Brandon Adams needs to help out is family really quick or else they'll be thrown out so a friend Ving Rhames tells him that the brother and sister have a gold coin fortune stored somewhere in the house were he and fool can go steal from and keep is family from being homeless. The acting by the actors who play the brother and sister in the film is really convincing and you get this creepy feeling everytime you see them on screen because they play the parts so well and act like there real psychos and people who have completely lost there minds. The acting by the actor Brandon Adams to is really good and brings some really good humor to the role as while which defiantly lightens thing's up when things get to serious and  also takes really good command of the role he's playing for someone so young. The movie has many scary moments but seeing these zombie like people that are living in the basement and have been abused like hell from the brother and sister has to be the most scary and creepiest stuff you will see in the movie which has quite alot. The movie has defiantly garnered alot of cult success from horror fans and people like  the universal Halloween horror nights event which has used the films plot and house for there yearly Halloween event every October which from all accounts pays tribute to the movie very well. The movie for me is defiantly a horror must see if your into getting really scared and being completely entertained by a well rounded story and some really scary jump put of your seat moments.  - JOHN KALTER

STAR TREK- ERIC BANA/CHRIS PINE
MAY 8, 2009

This to me is what summer movies are all about when you can see a movie like this one that just blows your mind from the second you start watching it all the way to the final scene. I honestly haven't had this much fun watching a movie in the movie theater in along time and it's a experience I will remember as one of my better movie going experiences I have had in awhile. The familiarity with the Star Trek series for me wasn't very good going in because I never really watched it before  however though after watching this movie I can see what all the fuss is about and why it so popular because it's got really fun and interesting characters and also the story is really well told and sucks you right in. The movie basically is a orgin story were it explains how these people became part of the famous USS Enterprise spaceship and how they basically all met and formed there crew. The most interesting character for me was captain kirk's because of how he started out as basically a rebel getting into fights to becoming the captain of the enterprise and leading the spaceship which was a part that I found the actor Chris Pine really did a good job of playing and making him believable all the way through seeing him mature from a boy  into a man. Also the villains here were really good and Eric Bana as the leader really brought through as Nero the captain a truly terrifying and vicious killer hell bent on getting what he wants no matter what it takes. The special effects were also just mind blowing and out of this world that you actually think your seeing the real thing because there so believable and realistic looking and they make the movie so much better and give of the feel of a really big summer blockbuster rather that your average picture. This movie also remined me of the original star wars trilogy and how much fun those movies were and the great stories they told which is very much like this movie were you see how just after one viewing your completely hooked and become a fan right away if you already weren't one and makes you feel like a kid again dreaming of being in the movie and living that life because it looks like so much fun. This movie is one summer movie I would not miss and if you haven't already seen the movie do yourself a favor and see the damn movie already because it's a fricken blast and the most fun you will have at the movies all summer long.

THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY-CLINT EASTWOOD
DECEMBER 23, 1967

My absolute favorite western of all time and a movie that I think is one of the coolest movies of all time is The Good, the Bad and the Ugly a epic spaghetti western set durning the civil war that has some of the greatest movie moments that I have scene. One thing in particular that I think makes this movie cool is the famous score Ecstasy of Gold which has to be the most iconic score used in movies that I have heard which if you didn't know this has been used by Metallica for all there concerts as while as doing a cover of the song that is also really good and covers the song greatly. The one scene that maybe the most remeberd scene in the movie  and the most popular is the famous Mexican standoff scene which is done so perfectly with the music playing in the background  and has all three men looking at each other to see who will fire that first shot to grab the gold these men have desperately been looking for the whole movie until it comes down to the final shot  were there is just one man left standing. What makes this scene even more special is the suspense that you feel while watching it seeing theses close up shots that are filled with tension and the sweat that pours down there faces as you see and wonder who will fire the first shot and who will grab the gold and run away which is done with such greatness it's a scene in my opinion that will never be topped. The performances are all memorable from Clint Eastwood who plays one of the most famous cowboys in a western film as Blondie the good who embodies the term cool with his cigar always in his mouth and the clothes that he wears to Eli Wallach Tuco The Ugly who brings great chemistry with Clint's character and also brings some really funny moments which gives the film it's laughs and finally Lee Van Cleef who plays one of the better villains you will see in a movie as Angel Eyes The Bad with his cold stare and ruthlessness, sociopath ways to do whatever it tales to find the gold and keep it for himself. The movie also has some of the greatest looking scenes you will see from a movie like everything to a bridge that explodes to the start of the civil war were you see constant shot's fired and bodies lying everywhere and also  the shot of seeing the cemetery were the standoff takes place in it's windscreen format that looks like it stretches on forever and must have over a thousand graves. So do yourself a favor and see this movie one of the most enjoyable movie experiences that I have witnessed in my life and also one that will stay with you for a long time after watching it.

SEVEN-BRAD PITT/MORGAN FREEMAN

When it comes to great horror movies and movies that I could watch again and again this film would be one of those films. The movie is about two detective's played by Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman who are investigating the murders by a serial killer named John Doe who kills his victims by the seven sins. The murders done like each of the seven deadly sins are some of the most disturbing and gruesome scenes you will watch because they are done so realistically so you feel as if your watching a real murder that had taken place. My favorite scene to watch of the seven sins that takes place is Sloth because you are so shocked at what your seeing and what just happened that your mouth literally drops to the floor which is basically this man that has been bound to his bed for one year and was severely tortured yet when the detectives get there he some how is still alive which just blows me away everytime I see it. The performances by the whole cast is really good ecspacally by Kevin Spacey who plays the killer John Doe about just as good or even better than Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter because he shows just no remorse for what he has committed and and is basically just a purely evil person who is hell bent on killing and making  every ones life a living hell. The look and feel of the film is one of the best I ever saw starting with the very beginning of the movie when you see quick cuts of John Doe murdering his victims  which is shot like a snuff film and has the band Nine Inch Nails song Closer playing in the background which makes the look and feel of the film that much more creepy and scary. Also visually and stylistically the city in which the story takes place in is so dirty, violent and depressing that it makes the look of the film fit the story so perfectly and also make the place look like the worst city to live in were it never seems to stops raining and looks like there's a crime and murder on every street corner were everyone hates everyone. The scene towards the end has to be right up there as one of the most shocking scenes you will see in film were Brad Pitt's character finds his wife played by Gwyneth Paltrow head in a box which is were John Doe the killer placed it after he killed her which has to be the most what the hell just happened kind of moment because you weren't expecting it at all and it basically just throws you for a loop. For me I have never been so certain that this is a movie that can be watched and enjoyed countless times because of how suspenseful the movie is as while as the great well written story that just takes you by the throat and just doesn't want to let go with every single scene and moment your watching as while the great performances by all the actors who make the movie for what it is which is one of the best thrillers or horror movies of all time bar none.

THE HANGOVER-BRADLEY COOPER/JUSTIN BARTHA

What a hilariously funny movie this film was with some of the funniest scenes and characters i have seen in a comedy in a long time. This movie tells of four best friends who go to Las Vegas for a bachelor party for soon to be married Doug played by Justin Bartha were they all stay at a suite at a nice hotel. They then find out however the next day that they cant remember a single thing that went on the previous night because they partyed so much and on top of that the person they through the bachelor party for is missing. So the three remaining friends go through Vegas to not only find there friend but also to remember what the hell  happened to them last night. The movie was filled with so many funny performances but for me the one that stands out the most is Alan played by Zach Galifianakis who reminds me of Jack Black with his wild and crazy humor and what he will put his body through just to get a laugh.. If I also had to pick one scene that made me laugh more than others it would have to be when they first wake up after there wild night of parting and not no a single thing of what happened to them like one missing a tooth to them also finding a tiger and a baby. I also enjoyed the chemistry amongst the lead actors who all fed of each other really well and made the movie so much funnier and more entertaining to watch. I also don't want to spoil it to much but stay durning the credits to see what actually happened to them durning the night that they couldn't remember which is really funny and crazy. So for me this is defiantly recommend to everyone to go see and laugh your ass off and have one hell of a time at the movies for a truly funny and original comedy.

STIR OF ECHOES-KEVIN BACON

This movie I just watched recently for the very first time not knowing very much about it going in I thought was a really scary suspenseful thriller with a very good performance maybe the best I've seen from Kevin Bacon. It's about a man living in Chicago with his wife and young son working as your typical working class guy who dreams of one day having a better life for his family. One night at a party his wife's sister in law hypnotizes him so he can be more open minded about his life only for him to start seeing visions of a ghost named Samantha Kozac who had disappeared from the neighborhood and is believed dead. There son also has visions of this girl but is more calm about than the father who go's crazy with constant messages and thoughts running through his head that he's getting from this girl to find what really happened to her. He end's up asking everyone in town if they have any information on this girl and what really happened to her but know one really has any answers. He then begins to listen to this girl and follows what she is saying so he can find out what happened to her. What he finds out is truly shocking and surprising as he find the dead body in the basement of his house while digging outside and inside for clues. He then shortly there after finds who murdered the girl and trys to finally put her life to rest once and for all. The movie for me reminded me of some classic horror movies like the Sixth Sense and The Shining because of the supernatural elements that went on through out the movie as while as the constant amount of suspense and terror that you feel while watching it. The performance like I already mentioned by Kevin Bacon is really good and to me elevates the movie from being your average horror film in to something really special. To me to it also has to be one of the more underrated thrillers to come out in the past ten years which is shocking because of how good the movie is and how scared you get while watching it. So if your looking for something to get you really scared and also make you think at the same time than this is the movie for you to watch and enjoy. -JOHN KALTER

THE DEVIL'S REJECTS-SHERI MOON/WILLIAM FORSYTHE

One of my faviorte new horror movies to come out in the past few years has got to be the devil's rejects a film that constantly entertains and excites me everytime I watch it. The film tells of this homicdel and psychopathic family named the firefly family that  has killed more that seventy five people as while as the  disapperances from many people that are still missing. The state troopers begin there search for them led by the sherrif played by William Forsythe who is looking for revenge after they killed his brother. After a full scale attack on there property two members of the family manage to escape otis and his sister baby played by Sheri Moon Rob Zombie's wife. While on the run otis and baby look to reunite with there father captain spaulding at hotel were they have killed and tortured a traveling country band. Once they are all together they go to a brothel were the sherrif finds them and captures them holding them hostage inside the firefly house were he tortures each one of them like they did with there victims. While he burns the house he decides to kill baby only to be killed himself by a disfigured looking giant who kills the sherrif and saves otis and captain spailding from the burning house. They manage to escape by driving away only to be shot to death by a group of a police whom were partners with the sherrif. The movie for me had everyhing you could want in a horror movie with it's great death scenes like when one of the band members escapes only to be killed by a driving truck having her whole body dismemberd. Another thing I enjoyed was how funny the firefly family would be ecspacally when they would argue with one another like baby and otis who had that brother and sister relationship. And I also enjoyed the soundtrack that played throughout the movie that included alot of great rock and pop hits one of which I really enjoyed which was the shootout at the end where Lynyrd Skynard's Freebird  is blasing at full speed. Also I cant leave out how truly great the film looks and how the director Rob Zombie makes it look like a old school 70's horror movie like those of Wes Craven and John Carpenter. So in closing this a must see for all horror fans who want to see something truly terrifing, scary and original which for me is a true horror movie experience.

LITTLE NICKY-ADAM SANDLER/PATRICIA ARQUETTE

The movie I am talking about today is in my opinion a very underrated film that makes me laugh every time I watch it. The movie is about Satan played by Harvey Keitel wanting to retire but cant because he finds his three sons not ready for the job which makes two of his sons angry so they leave hell and go to earth. That leaves Little Nickey played by Adam Sandler to try and save his father who's dying by following his brothers and bring them back so that his father can be healthy again. There on earth he meets a couple of interesting characters while searching for his brothers which include a talking dog, struggling actor and two metal heads who all help him find his brothers and save his father at the same time. Also while on earth Nicky finds his love interest played by Patricia Arquette who both really like each other and have a good connection between the two. This movie is my favorite Adam Sandler movie and features some really hilarious moments like when Nicky gets high with his friends because they eat a cake that has reefer in it and also when Nicky is having a fight with his brother that includes both of them using pillows to defend each other. And the movie has countless funny bits of dialogue that are really laugh out loud funny as while as a really good heavy metal soundtrack which includes Ozzy Osbourne who also makes a funny appearance in the movie. So this for me is a five star comedy that can be watched again and again and makes me laugh so hard every time I see it.

THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON-BRAD PITT/CATE BLANCHETT

Today's movie I am talking to you about was a little disappointing for me given the cast and director and also how many Oscar nominations It got. The movie tells the story of Benjamin Button who was abandoned as a child and left with a black woman and a caregiver named Queenie who takes care of him the first part of his life. He has a disease that has him age backwards which causes most people to think he wont survive for very long given the disease. While living with this he meets a young girl named daisy who both enjoy each others  company while spending time together at the seniors home. As Benjamin gets younger he wants to move out and live his own life so he can see what life has to offer him outside the seniors home. While away he begins to have memories of daisy who he was friends with while at the seniors home so he begins his trip back to see her only to find she doesn't want a relationship she just wants to be friends. After countless encounters daisy finally gives in and starts seeing Benjamin in a relationship which See's them become in love and end up marring each other even though there much different in age. They have a baby but soon after that he cant see it working out full time and have a life long relationship together. Through the years they start writing each other to keep in touch up until her death and Benjamin grows younger through his childhood years. The movie for me was a little to long and didn't have a story that really captivated me all the way through given how the love story wasn't something I really got all that in to. I did however like the special effects which were amazing ecspcally the makeup which was used for all the actors including Brad Pitt who's makeup was so realistic looking and made you believe all the transformations he went through. And also the acting was very good with all the main actors doing there roles justice ecspcally Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett who are the main characters in the movie. So I would give the movie three stars with the main problem for me being I wasn't truly invested in the love story and that it's three hours long. However it's a great movie to look at and also to watch two good performances from it's lead actors.

THE SHINING- JACK NICHOLSON/SHELLEY DUVALL

This movie is my absolute favorite horror movie of all time and has been since I was in high school. The movie starts with Jack Torrance played by Jack Nicholson becoming the caretaker of the Overlook Hotel in Colorado for the winter . He realizes during his interview for the hotel that there was a murder there that occurred were a previous caretaker named Grady chopped his family including his twin daughter's with a Axe and later killed himself with a shotgun. You see as the family gets there that the son named Danny has a power called The Shining which allows him to see things in the past and future. While Danny is there he sees the cook who tells him that he himself has The Shining and warns him about the hotel as while as room 237 which has sinister forces behind it. While day's go by at the hotel you see the transformation of Jack like the previous caretaker as he begins to go completely mad and begins to take his frustration on Danny as while as his wife played by Shelley Duvall. His wife and son realize this and begin to find a way to get out of there before they become like the previous caretaker's family getting chopped up. This film has so many great and scary moments like when Jack See's this beautiful lady in room 237 that becomes this zombie like creature as while as the moment were you see a waterfall of blood that comes from the elevator door. And you cant forget the moment were his wife is trapped in the bathroom and he has this Axe which he uses to knock down the door were he sputters the famous line HERE'S JOHNNY! The film also has a sense of dread the whole time your at the hotel that you know good things are not ahead with the music and the claustrophobic feel throughout the movie. A five star masterpiece in horror film making that every horror fan should see at least ten times because of how truly terrifying the film is.

FROST/NIXON- FRANK LANGELLA and MICHAEL SHEEN

The movie I want to talk to you about today has been one of my favorite viewing's most recently and that movie is Frost/Nixon. the story of how Richard Nixon the disgraced President hiding in exile the past three years after the Watergate scandal decides to have a interview with the fun loving British talk show host David Frost. As he was chosen to interview Nixon, his team had it's doubts because he's never taken something so seriously in his life and that the whole world would be watching. The interview between both Nixon played by Frank Langella and frost played by Michael Sheen has the most interesting and entertaining bits of dialog I've seen in a movie in quite sometime and will hold you in like it did, me all the way through. Even the supporting players in the movie especially Sam Rockwell and Kevin Bacon give really great roles to this movie. Another thing I loved about it was a true story and not something that was made up or fake which made the movie that much more intresting to see because it really had happen and was important part of Richard Nixon's Presidency and life that not everyone may not know about. So in closing I would give the movie five stars for it's brilliant portrayals of these real life people As while giving us the whole truth to what really happened between Frost and Nixon during that whole interview when it was taking place.

Bedtime Stories- Starring Adam Sandler and Courtney Cox

This movie starring funny man Adam Sandler see him play against his type by being in I believe his first pg rated comedy. Here you see in this movie Sandler playing a janitor named Skeeter who works at his fathers hotel were he hopes to one day become the manager. As his sister played by Courtney Cox is leaving Skeeter to baby-sit her two kids by telling them bedtime stories in which end up coming true in his own life. The bedtime stories have Skeeters life become much different which he uses to help make his life the way he always wanted it to be. The movie has a lot of good moments especially if you want to watch a movie with your kids who will really enjoy the comedy displayed by Adam Sander as while the special effects and creativity shown through out the movie. This movie though I think will not amuse adults much because it's geared mainly toward kids and is not the typical Adam Sandler movie you may be used to seeing him star in . I would give this movie a four star rating for it's funny performances adding originality and creativity of the story helped as well.
